I am interested in studying systems including cloud, distributed, and data center systems mostly from performance metric perspective. In this regard, I have been using mathematical tools such as performance modeling and queueing theory to analyze the behavior of such systems and to optimize metrics of interest. For instance, one critical scenario to deal with is how to address resource contention in cloud environments. Besides, I am interested in benchmarking techniques and frameworks since it is a vital part of performance analysis.
Some of my recent projects include:
- Improving server utilization in cloud environments (Scavenger paper)
- Efficient segment assignment strategy for reducing tail latencies in Pinot (EASY paper)
- Dynamic, interference-aware load balancing for cloud-deployed applications (DIAL paper)
- User-centric detection and estimation of performance interference (UIE paper)
