Introduce yourself 🗣

Hello👋! My name is Choi Ying and I majored in CS💻 & minored in Digital Arts🎨 during my time at Stony Brook. I was part of WiCS e-board as an Event Committee Member, Graphic Designer, and Secretary.

How have you been involved with WiCS 💻 & how has WiCS impacted you? 🤩

I first heard about WiCS from the MERIT mentors during my freshman summer and later ran for ECM in my sophomore year because I really enjoyed the vibe WiCS had in GBMs. As I helped to organize more WiCS events, I realize how supportive and enjoyable space it is for everyone. I hope it can reach to more people so I went for the advertising part (aka Graphics) in the next year, then Secretary in the last year. Being part of WiCS was a huge turning point in my college life. It has impacted me a lot in terms of personally and professionally. From here, I have met lots of amazing people, discovered my interests, strength/weakness, and definitely improved in public speaking skills. WiCS introduced me new challenges but also taught me it is not as hard to overcome if you keep faith in yourself.

Favorite WiCS memory? 🤔

There are quite a lot of moments I like but in general, I like it when I get to see the WiCS members enjoying events like HopperHacks, Thanksgiving Potluck, GBMs, etc. I always liked to do stuff like setting up for events, serving food, or taking photos. I really like the atmosphere after all, and will never forget when I was first introduced as ECM at Thanksgiving Potluck, walking around to greet people and taking pictures of them eating and having fun with friends. Speaking of that, another thing I will never forget is prepping and baking hundreds of tarts and tea, filming promo vid and watching the solar eclipse with everyone during the WiCS fundraiser. It was somewhat odd but also an interesting experience to do with e-board members before getting out of college.
