Sit with your team mates.
1) Write down an answer to the following question on a piece of paper and pass it on to your team mate, who will then comment on your answer, and then on to the next team member, etc, until it comes back to you. "What is the most important societal problem you would like to help solve?"
2) Using the same process, write down your answer to this question: "What type of volunteer work have you done, or would like to do?"
3) Now do some research. What local nonprofit group, campus club, or agency works with the disadvantaged population that you would like to help?
4) How do you think IT might be able to help? Solicit comments from your team.
5) Compare your team's responses. Are there any overlaps in interest areas, populations, or campus agencies? Advocate for your favorites, but listen to your team mates' preferences too. Your task is to narrow the choices down to a first choice and an alternate.
6) Have the team secretary share the team's choice of potential clients with the class when asked by the facilitator.
Purpose:
Get to know your team mates better. Identify at least two potential topics for the term project. Each team memebr fills out the online form at the end of the activity.
