In the example below a guitar and vocal performance are digitized as two distinct channels (left and right audio) in real time. Having an unmixed vocal and guitar channel allows for attenuation or amplification of the channels separately, as well as applying filters, etc. For example, reverb was added to the vocal track to give it more "body".
The example below mixes multiple audio sources including WAV, MIDI, and AIFF. The eight tracks were mixed down to a single stereo track in order to compress the file using MPEG-3. Cue points embedded in the file drive the display of graphics in an interactive exhibit for the Long Island Museum.

MIDI beat generators provide an economical way to include background rythms in commercial music as well as computer games.
This MIDI file was transposed from sheet music (Beethoven's "Ode to Joy"). Audio bitmaps can be transposed directly into MIDI.
