ANIMATION PRINCIPLES

Natural Phenomena:

Lightning:
This example is a "straight-ahead action" animation, meaning that there are no keyframes or tweens. The bolts of lightning and the flashes are loosely synchronized to the thunder soundtrack. This type of sporadic weather phenomena is ideal for this approach.

Rain:
This example requires more planning. By creating reusable clips of water ripples and raindrops a lot of work is saved, and the animation can be randomized, making it more realistic. The clips are stored in the library and are brought to the timeline where they can be scaled and offset with other clips.

Gravity and Wind:
Both sides of a number of fall leaves were scanned on the flatbed scanner for this next example. Clips were made with alternating frames showing the top and bottom side of the leaf.

Human and Animal Locomotion:
Rotoscoping is the tracing of live action.
