(IsraelNN.com) Israeli researcher Dr. Eitan Bachmat has completed studies that confirm most air travelers' understanding that assigned seating and controlled boarding slows airplane boarding. See Complete article on Israel21c.org
He said that according to his models, the fastest way of boarding a plane would be open seating. When seats are assigned, "letting people join the line randomly would be the best idea. If there were to be any kind of controlled boarding to try to make it quicker, the only thing that might help would be getting people who have seats closest to the window to board first. But there is no need to play with the rows. It doesn't matter which rows get on first."
