As distributed data management systems are deployed more often in untrusted environments, adversarial transaction ordering has become a major concern where malicious proposers change the order of transactions, a threat not inherently covered by Byzantine fault-tolerant (BFT) protocols. While recent research shows that BFT protocols are vulnerable to these manipulation attacks, there has not been a thorough analysis of the existing protocols and threats. This project aims to develop a framework to study different MEV attacks on bFT protocols.
