Tuesdays 5:20 - 6:10, Computer Science Bulding, Room 1310. Please note the new room for the class. If you enter the lobby of the Computer Science Building from the entrance across from Javits, turn right, go past the elevator and through the double doors. Room 1310 will be the first room on your left.

Course Description

The number of people needing a transplant continues to rise faster than the number of donors. About 3,700 transplant candidates are added to the national waiting list each month. Each day, about 77 people receive organ transplants. However, 18 people die each day waiting for transplants that can't take place because of the shortage of donated organs. The focus of this LDS 102 course will be two-fold: (1) students in the course will learn the facts and issues surrounding organ and tissue donation in the United States; and (2) they will help establish, plan, implement and carry out various projects aimed at increasing organ and tissue donation awareness within the University and the surrounding community.

Course Syllabus

The following schedule of class lectures is still evolving. I will let you know about any changes as far in advance as possible. Student Presentations will be about 25 minutes in length.

Course Work

Attendance in class is mandatory and will count toward your final grade. Please make every effort to attend class, as I will be taking attendance. Each student in the class will participate in a course project concerning organ & tissue donation awareness. Students may work on the projects in "teams" of one or more students. Each team will give a 25-minute talk about their course project.

Grading


Your grade for the course will be determined by your attendance record, the quality of your course project and associated class presentation.
