- Write a brief report based on a search of www.amazon.com, www.bn.com, and at least one local
bookstore comparing options of obtaining the textbooks for this course, explaining
how and why you decided to obtain the textbooks in the way you did. Neatness, spelling, grammar, and clarity of presentation all count.
Work in groups. If possible, email the result to yaya@cs.sunysb.edu. Do not send
as an attachment. Each
member of a group should email a copy of the homework.
Otherwise, submit both a paper copy and diskette.
- Homework Assignment #2, 26 September 2001, due 10 October 2001
- Get a reliable timing device with a second hand (in most cases, your
computer should do the job). Get on the web
and explore at least 10 different web sites you have never visited
before, recording the time in seconds for the web page to load.
Be careful to clear your cache if you visit the same site more
than once.
Carefully study each web page.
Write a brief report based on your experience with these new web sites
attempting to explain why some web pages load faster than others.
Neatness, spelling, grammar, and clarity of presentation all count.
Work in groups. If possible, email the result to yaya@cs.sunysb.edu. Do not send
as an attachment. If any member of a group has not already sent email, each
member of a group should email a copy of the homework, otherwise one email
from the entire group will suffice.
If you cannot send email, submit both a paper copy and diskette.
- Homework Assignment #3, 24 October 2001, due 31 October 2001
- If you have not completed Homework #2, get it in fast.
- Take the data you collected for Homework #2 and make it
into a small web page presenting that data as an HTML <table>,
embedded within your report as explanatory text.
Work in groups. If possible, post your new web page (see
http://www.sinc.sunysb.edu/Web/guide.html) and email
the URL.
Otherwise email the result to
yaya@cs.sunysb.edu. Do not send
as an attachment. If any member of a group has not already sent email, each
member of a group should email a copy of the homework, otherwise one email
from the entire group will suffice.

using Microsoft Excel or using any suitable graphics program,
add a simple bar chart of the web page load times.
Work in groups. If possible, post your new web page (see
http://www.sinc.sunysb.edu/Web/guide.html) and email
the URL.
Otherwise email the result to
yaya@cs.sunysb.edu. Do not send

after each bullet and before the link include a small clipart icon of a
hand pointing to the link.
Work in groups. If possible, post your new web page (see

sources of data on the web. You must make at least some of your
images act as hypertext links.
