IEEE BIBM 2026 Awards — Call for Nominations
Celebrating 20 Years of IEEE BIBM
In celebration of the 20th IEEE International Conference on Bioinformatics and Biomedicine (BIBM), we are pleased to introduce three new awards recognizing lasting research impact, outstanding scientific contributions, and exceptional service to the BIBM community.
The inaugural awards will be presented at IEEE BIBM 2026 in Dallas, Texas, December 1‑4, 2026.
1. IEEE BIBM Test of Time Award
The IEEE BIBM Test of Time Award recognizes a paper published at a previous IEEE BIBM conference that has demonstrated significant and sustained impact over time. The award honors work whose importance has been demonstrated through its lasting influence on research, methodology, technology, biomedical applications, or clinical practice.
For the inaugural 20th‑anniversary award, papers published in the IEEE BIBM proceedings at least 10 years ago (2016 or earlier) are eligible.
Selection will consider:
- Lasting influence on subsequent research;
- Creation or advancement of important research directions, methods, systems, datasets, or applications;
- Impact on biomedical research, clinical practice, or technology;
- Continued relevance to current research or practice.
Citation counts may provide supporting evidence but will not be the sole basis for selection.
Each nomination should include:
- The full citation and link to the nominated IEEE BIBM paper;
- A nomination statement of up to 2 pages describing the paper's original contribution and long‑term impact;
- Supporting evidence of scientific, technological, biomedical, or practical impact.
All authors of the selected paper will receive the award.
2. IEEE BIBM Research Contributions Award
The IEEE BIBM Research Contributions Award recognizes an individual who has made significant and sustained research contributions to bioinformatics and biomedicine.
Each nomination should include:
- Up to 3 significant publications or research contributions;
- How these contributions are relevant to the bioinformatics and biomedicine community in general and to IEEE BIBM in particular;
- The broader impact of these contributions, such as scientific influence, citations, methods, software, datasets, biomedical applications, or clinical impact.
3. IEEE BIBM Outstanding Service Award
The IEEE BIBM Outstanding Service Award recognizes an individual who has made exceptional and sustained service contributions to IEEE BIBM and the broader bioinformatics and biomedicine community.
Each nomination should include:
- Up to 3 significant service activities, such as conference or workshop organization, journal leadership, community resource development, mentoring, or activities facilitating bioinformatics and biomedical research, development and applications;
- How these activities have strengthened the bioinformatics and biomedicine community and contributed to the development and success of IEEE BIBM.
Nomination Guidelines
- Any researcher or practitioner in bioinformatics, computational biology, or medicine from any institution worldwide may submit a nomination.
- Self‑nominations are permitted only for the Test of Time Award.
- For the Research Contributions Award and Outstanding Service Award, the nominee must be an individual.
- Awards Committee members may not nominate candidates for awards they are evaluating and must recuse themselves from cases involving a significant conflict of interest.
- Sitting Awards Committee members are not eligible to receive the Research Contributions Award or Outstanding Service Award during their term.
- An award may not be presented in a given year if the committee determines that no nomination meets the expected standard.
Submission
All nomination materials should be compiled into a single PDF file.
