Assignment 3

Due Wednesday, October 15th.

AMS 553 / CET 554 / MBA 553 :

A self-service car wash has 4 washing stalls. When they are in a stall, customers may choose among three options:  rinse only; wash & rinse; wash, rinse & wax. Each option has a fixed time to complete:  rinse only (3 minutes);  wash & rinse (7 minutes);  and wash, rinse & wax (12 minutes). The owners have observed that 20% of customers rinse only; 70% wash and rinse; and 10% wash, rinse & wax. There are no scheduled appointments, and customers arrive according to a Poisson process (i.e. , customers arrive according to an exponential distribution of inerarrival times) at a rate of 34 cars per hour. There is only room for three cars to wait in the parking lot, so currently many customers are lost. The owners want to know how much more business they will do if they add another stall. Adding a stall will take away one space in the parking lot.

Simulate using Simscript II.5, and run your simulation(s) for one 15-hour working day. Compare the two configurations and report on your conclusions.
